Legislation

There are two main pieces of legislation that are relevant to the operations of the Department. The Correctional Services Act of 2006 (plus amendments)
and the Penal Code.

The objectives of the Correctional Services Act are:

1. The maintenance of public safety
2. Consideration of victim's interests
3. Provision of rehabilitation and reintegration
4. Fair treatment of offenders

The Penal Code provides descriptions of community based sentences
and pre-sentence reports.
